FAQ

Questions GCC investors ask about UK property.

Clear answers to the questions we hear most often. If yours isn’t here, ask us directly — in Arabic or English.

Can GCC nationals buy property in the UK?

Yes. There are no restrictions on foreign ownership of UK property. Citizens and residents of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman can buy in their own name, jointly or through a company.

Which UK cities are best for property investment in 2026?

We focus on Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Leeds. Savills’ June 2026 forecast expects prices in the North West and Yorkshire & the Humber to rise by around 25% by 2030, and the West Midlands by around 19.7%, compared with 10.6% in London — and these cities combine lower entry prices with strong rental demand.

Do I need to travel to the UK to buy a property?

No. The whole purchase can be handled remotely. Viewings can be done by video, documents can be completed from abroad, and BPG coordinates every step. You can also meet us in Kuwait, London or Dubai.

What rental yields can I expect?

Indicative gross yields in our cities typically range from about 5% to 8% depending on the city, postcode and property type, with Liverpool usually the highest. We provide property-specific evidence before you commit.

What services does BPG provide?

Everything involved in UK property ownership: portfolio strategy, sourcing, mortgage brokerage through FCA-authorised partners, solicitors and conveyancing, property management, lettings, accounting and tax, and student homes.

What taxes do overseas buyers pay on UK property?

In England the main taxes are Stamp Duty Land Tax on purchase (including a 2% surcharge for non-UK residents and higher rates for additional properties), income tax on rental profits, and Capital Gains Tax on sale. Rates change, so we arrange advice from UK tax specialists.

Can I get a UK mortgage as a GCC resident?

Often, yes. Some UK lenders lend to overseas buyers, usually with a larger deposit. Sharia-compliant home purchase plans are also available from certain providers. We arrange this through FCA-authorised partner brokers.

Can I buy an apartment for my child who studies in the UK?

Yes — it is one of the most popular reasons GCC families buy. If your child is 18 or over and will live there, buying in their own name is usually the most tax-efficient option: it can avoid the 5% additional-property Stamp Duty surcharge and may qualify for first-time buyer relief. Parents can help with a gifted deposit or as joint borrowers on the mortgage. We manage the home during studies, let it after graduation, and coordinate advice from a UK solicitor and tax adviser before you decide.

What is off-plan property, and is it risky?

Off-plan means buying before construction finishes, usually with staged payments. It can offer attractive pricing, but carries delivery risk. Review the developer’s track record, deposit protection and contract terms carefully.

What is the difference between freehold and leasehold?

Freehold means you own the building and the land. Leasehold — common for apartments in England — means you own the property for a fixed term under a lease. Check the remaining lease length, ground rent and service charges.

Can I buy UK property through a company?

Yes, through a UK limited company or an overseas company. Overseas entities must register on the Register of Overseas Entities. The right structure depends on your tax position.

How long does a UK property purchase take?

A resale or completed new-build purchase typically takes 8–16 weeks. With off-plan, contracts are exchanged within weeks, and completion happens when construction finishes — often one to three years later.
